Climate change is expected to lead to increased migration within Pakistan and from Pakistan to other countries. The country is already experiencing climate change-related displacement, particularly due to heat stress and flooding, which harm agriculture and livelihoods. In 2016, more than one million people were permanently displaced by natural disasters, a number likely to rise due to climate change. Pakistan has also seen temporary displacement caused by natural disasters, like the 2010 floods, which affected 20 million people. Overall, climate change is exacerbating displacement in Pakistan, both internally and externally. Th paper identified that climate change is a strong driver of internal migration and displacement, and migrants and IDPs continue to be vulnerable to developmental and socioeconomic challenges.
