Pakistan ranks 7th in the 2018 Long-Term Climate Risk Index, with 523.1 annual deaths and $3.8 billion yearly economic loss. In 2016, 566 climate-induced casualties resulted in a $47.3 million loss. 1,800 people were displaced in 2017, with a net migration rate of 1.7 migrants per 1,000 people from 2015-2020, including 48.9% women. Many migrants leave behind agricultural land. However, Oxfam and IUCN Pakistan organized a climate change dialogue in Sindh, addressing risks to mangroves, fisheries, women's development, and climate migration. The experts concluded that safeguarding the mangroves as part of our climate change adaptation strategy should be a priority. This approach will not only bolster sustainable coastal livelihoods but also mitigate the significant migration from the Sindh coast to other regions of Pakistan and neighboring countries.
